When Quantity Surpasses Quality in a Society

It seems I can’t evade the effects of a culture that values quantity over quality. In every way I can think of, our culture has come to depend on a new given, and that given is that having more of something is better.

I’ll be the first to admit that not only does my own life resemble this in many ways, but wherever I go and whatever I do, it seems I have nothing but choices. Too many choices if you ask me.

I’ve always subscribed to the adage, “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.” At least this is true for me where I see that I am outnumbered. But this doesn’t mean that I sacrifice my values. It means I haven’t known what to do with them because it’s been my experience that I have so few choices in life of where to exercise them anymore.

Quality matters to me. Very much. The quality of time I spend with someone. The quality of a product. The quality of someone’s character. The quality of my life.

Here is where I subscribe to “if I can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.” Where I find resistance in my life, I try to let go and do something different. Because I would like a different outcome. So I use these social public platforms to practice using my voice because it matters to me.

I’ve lived long enough in resistance. Now I go with the flow in my own way. I’m well aware of best practices on these platforms. So I post to make room for new practices and new ideas. Because I value quality and I would like to see more opportunities in my life and in my community where quality is valued and understood.
